Dutch Fort
At the south of Pangkor Town and at the end of Pangkor village, lies Kampong Teluk Gedung and there, there is a 300-year old stone foundation of 'Kota Belanda' or Dutch Fort.

Dutch trade in tin with Perak in 1680 led the construction of this fort for storage purpose and protection of the supplies. The fort was built squarely and the walls are thirty feet in height and covered overhead like a dwelling house. The Dutch attempted to monopolise the lucrative tin trade despite the presence of the fort smuggling of tin. The fort was destroyed in 1690 by Malays who were discontented with the method used by the Dutch in obtaining the mineral. The frequent attacks by local leaders eventually led the Dutch to abandon the area. It was rebuilt by the Dutch in I743 and a force of 60 soldiers were placed to guard the fort. In 1748, the force was disbanded and the fort was abandoned. The fort was reconstructed by a museums department in 1973 and it stands in its original foundation.

Sacred Rock
Located next to the Dutch Fort there is Batu Bersurat. It literally means "the stone of inscriptions". The stone is a large granite boulder and has the inscription ‘1743 I.F.CRALO’ and the initials ‘VOC’ (Veerenigde Oostindische Compagnie - The Dutch East India Company), and the image of a tiger. The carvings is said to depict the picture if a tiger catching a child. The child is believed to be the son of a Dutch dignitary who played by the rock, disappeared with no trace and was, presumed to have been taken by a tiger. However, the villagers said that it wasn’t the tiger that had taken the child, but rather the angry Malays, who wanted to get rid of the Dutch. The Dutch chiseled this incident on the stone depicting the Malays as a tiger.
