Training For Mentally Retarded Children
The main goal of the training is to make the mentally retarded child as normal as possible. The special training emphasizes the following areas:- speech language development, self-help and social skills. There is specialised education programme which is tailored to each child to improve their educational progress.

Training For Mentally Retarded youth above 18 years old (sheltered workshop)
While the mentally retarded children are given special training, the mildly mentally handicapped youth who have attained the age of 18 are offered with training to equip themselves with skills and correct attitude for remunerative job opportunities. The facilities offered will give them confidence at work and social abilities so that they will be able to assimilate within the community and be self reliance. Some of them are now employed in factories (as general worker) and in restaurants (as dish washer) around Ipoh.

Farming is also carried out at the centre to equip the youth with skill and knowledge to be farmers or gardeners. The youth are given skills on herbs planting at the herb garden at this centre. They are also trained to plant flowers and are given responsibility to take good care of the garden.

Those who are severely mentally retarded will not be sent to work outside in order to protect them from being exploited. However, they are given some work such as packing rubber gloves and instant mee or cutting off excess threads from tailored garment sent by factories nearby.

Disable children/youth.
The centre provides assessment and rehabilitation programmes which includes assistive devices and facilitate access to appropriate medical, paramedical, welfare and financial assistance. It also assist parents to understand, manage and care for their family members.

Community development programme is offered by the centre to raise awareness of the public to encourage them to understand and meet the needs of the disabled. Assistance is provided to voluntary groups and associations involved in the rehabilitation of people with disabilities.

The centre liaises with various government departments including the Social Welfare Department, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Human Resources to facilitate the rehabilitation process.

As this centre provides free services to participants who are mostly from poor family, the centre would like to take the opportunity to appeal for generous support from individual, corporate or association for any form of donation.

In line with the Government efforts to promote a caring society, Puan Hasmah welcome volunteers to be involved in activities at this centre. Volunteers need not necessarily provide financial contribution as they can help out through different ways. Experts in various fields can pass on their knowledge or skills to help the less fortunate at the centre to be useful and productive citizen.
